Is this the greatest Buddhist movie ? - Dhamma Brothers

The Dhamma Brothers is a documentary film which cam out in 2007 and concerns a jail-house meditation course that was run at the Donaldson Prison in Bessemer, Alabama,USA. The film focuses on four inmates, who were all convicted of murder.Alongside the testimony of the prsioners it also includes the opinions of the guards, various prison officials, and local people. To fully understand what they had done it also includes dramatizatioon of the inmates' crimes. Music for the film is by Low, New Order and Sigur Rós.

It is a wondefully compelling account of an astonishing treatment program with prisoners that, against all probablities , actually worked and makes it plain that no human being should be considered beyond the reach of redemption.

The Largest Buddhist Temple in the World ....

is Wat Phra Dhammakaya - the home of the controversial Thai Buddhist sect and is located 16 km north of the Thailand's old international airport Dom Mueng - just outside of Bangkok and covers over 1000 acres. The central golden dome or stupa resembles an classic UFO flying saucer shape and can attract over 100,000 devotees to major festivals. It is controversial in that rather like American evangelic religions the order preaches wealth is good and donating money to to the order is a good way to gain merit.

It also has a 24 hour global TV channel and uses the most up to date marketing methods to attract followers.

Painting the Buddha - Our Latest Video

In my last post I profiled a You Tube video of a time lapse painting of the Buddha. In my search for content I came across some more videos of painting of the Buddha. I've picked the best, edited and assembled them together to make a short video of the the best of You Tube for our new channel Statues of the Buddha. The music is Willow by Cafe del Mar - this is there version of the operatic aria from Verdi's opera Otello - Café del Mar Aria is an album concept that combines Chill out music with opera arias. The Café del Mar concept originated from the "sunset bar" with has the same name in Sant Antoni de Portmany on the Mediterranean island of Ibiza.

Painting the Buddha

At Statues of the Buddha we are trying to highlight all aspects of Buddhist art and culture. One area that is reasonably neglected is that of painting the Buddha. In our trawl through varied You Tube material seeking out content that we can rework for our dedicated Statues of the Buddha You Tube channel we came across this interesting stop motion animation of an artist painting the image of the Buddha sitting in the lotus position on his bedroom wall - it only lasts just a bit over a minute so have a look. Hope you enjoy.

The Buddha Awakes - New Video - Hopiola by Sigur Ros

This is second in our Sigur Ros series of videos at Statues of the Buddha which we have called the Buddha Awakes as the music in my mind is very symbolic of an Awakening. We have put together a collection of beautiful multimedia images of the Buddha ,Buddha statues and images and more genreal video clips associated with Buddhism to accompany this their most famous track (which is best known as the title theme for the BBC documentary series Planet Earth).

We hope you enjoy watching it as much as we did making it.
